Celebrities maternity style do’s and don’ts

As my bump is getting bigger and bigger, I look up to some of the finest dressed celebrities out there to learn what to wear – and more important – what not to wear  while pregnant.

Do: buy maternity skinny jeans

when your torso is heavier – It’s great to wear skinny jeans to balance the look. It looks really cute with oversized coat or sweatshirt. Just look at Jamie King.

rs_634x1024-150503150415-634-jaime-king-new-york.ls.5315 285B550B00000578-3069592-image-m-14_1430877637612

Do: go for a nice summer dress (pair it with long cardi)

8a8e8bfffced47f9fe01032e90ae66c2

Because I live in London, the next time I’ll be able to wear a proper summer dress will probably be in only July, so I take comfort in this look, that looks cozy enough (I hope).

Do: do jumpsuits

one piece garment really makes the body look longer and it’s also a no-hassle when you don’t have enough time to think what the hell should you wear today.  pictured: Gwen Stefani and, again, Jamie King.

Pregnant+Gwen+Stefani+Family+Spend+Day+Together+W4rS5Eb6R7ul 848cf46b11fcfb5bc1be4c50dc02f1b3

Do: when in doubt – wear all black (or white)

one color outfit really makes you look like a very well put-together woman. which is important, because you probably feel like a total mess from the inside. Also, just like with the jumpsuits, one dominant color create the optical illusion of something longer. you can add a pop of color with a nice accessory, just like Blake Lively’s necklace.

Do: color blocking

if you want to emphasize some parts of your body – like your tiny waist or your long legs –  color blocking is a good option. I like this dress Keira Knightley is wearing that hides the tummy but draw attention to her waist. How cool does she look?

Don’t: borrow your partner’s sweater

As tempting as it is, don’t borrow clothes from his side of the closet. it will only look sloppy at the end. pictured: Fearne Cotton (to be honest, I do think this is her sweater, but you can tell the size is just not right).

Don’t: look like a pregnant  BDSM queen

It’s totally cool if you want to look sexy while pregnant but there is a fine line between sexy and over-exposed.

Don’t: be tempted to go out in your PJ’s

I know this is the easiest solution, even if your name is Anne Hathaway or Leighton Meester but please, don’t! Like I said before, you don’t feel like the old, fabulous you at this time (at least, I’m not) – so it’s nice to do the extra effort for yourself!

Don’t: wear sky-high heels

Sure, it’s OK if you are goddamn Beyonce and you have a chauffeur that takes you around town so you won’t have to actually WALK, but for all the other mortals – please. It will be so much comfortable with flats.

The coat I want (Vs. the coat I can actually afford)

I wanted to write this post for quite long now…

I have a million coats already, but it’s only after you cover all the basics (long black wool coat, parka, classic trench) when you can start to have fun and buy more colorful ones.
I noticed this coat from Miu Miu’s 70’s inspired collection a long time ago and wanted it to be mine…

Here is this beauty on the runway

And it comes with a price: a little bit over 2,000 quids!

For fashion girls only…

But then, just before Christmas, I saw these pics of Stephanie pratt and that other made-in-Chelsea-chick in what looked like totally-staged “paparazzi” photos, and I noticed the coat.2F059FA400000578-3344443-image-m-131_1449153107075

It looks just like the Miu Miu one unless it is TOPSHOP and the price tag is only 85£.

(Speaking of Pratt…  isn’t her skin looks AMAZING? Whatever laser or another facial she’s doing – I want to know!)

So anyway, the good news about the coat – now it’s also available in PINK!

My only dilemma: I am freaking pregnant…5 months now. My regular coats are hardly zippin’ up. Should I buy it with next year in mind?

How Do I Keep My Pregnancy Acne Under Control

Before I got pregnant I heard people say pregnancy is a wonderful time when the mother is literally glowing from the inside… well, this is isn’t the case for me!! One of the first signs of my pregnancy, even before the morning sickness was a terrible breakout. And though my morning (and evening) sickness have gone by now (16 weeks) I am still breaking out and it’s not fun at all. The good news – I managed to keep it under control! Here are the products and the routines that helped me the most…

1

My skin background: In my  teenage years I suffered from severe acne (and to make things even worse – didn’t exactly master the art of makeup back then!). More than 15 years ago – I agreed to try a new drug – Accutane. It wasn’t easy for me, but by the time I finished my high school – I was finally acne free! As an adult – I still suffer from hormonal breakouts from time to time, especially after my period and always on the chin area. I usually treat it with a topical acne treatment.

My pregnancy acne: since the early weeks – I am breaking out in my face, my chest area and my back!! So this is how I keep my acne under control: and by “under control” I mean: I can wear v-neck shirts again and I don’t have to spend hours concealing my pimples every morning…

Step 1: cleanse

My old cleanser contained salicylic acid  which is a no-no while pregnant. I heard good things about “Mama Mio” products, so I ordered this ‘gorgeous glow’ facial wash along with the ‘tummy rub’ cream. It contains naturally exfoliating Lactic Acid along with tea tree oil which supposed to deep-clean your face and balance the skin. I have to say it worked pretty good for me. Not instantly though but after a week or so of using it.

step 2: toning

I am a big fan of Bioderma’s “sebium h2o”. It purifies the skin and even dissolve my mascara. I can’t live without it! The Shiseido’s product is something I got as a gift and it suppose to make the skin softer and have some anti-aging qualities to it. I didn’t notice anything different but the smell is divine and it feels very luxurious so I use it after the toner!

20151208_145955

step 3: gently peel

this is where the Alpha-H is getting into the picture: every other night I’m using this baby – a combination between a serum and a lotion. You might feel a little tingling at first – this is a good sign which means the product is working. It contains 10% Glycollic acid – an Alpha hydroxy acid produced from sugar canes and considered to be safe during pregnancy in low percentages. It gently clean and exfoliates the skin and in the morning, the skin feels softer and looks brighter.

Once a week: I’m using Origins’s Clear improvement mask (with active Charcoal) for deep cleaning and to unblock pores.

Every other month: I go to see my facialists for extortion, and she uses some Glycolic and Lactic acid ( a little more concentrated than the products I use at home) for extra brightness and dewiness to the skin.

Bye-Bye to My beloved La Roche Posay’s Effaclar K. Again, this one contains Salicylic acid that is great for Acne but, unfortunately, doesn’t considered to be safe during pregnancy. So long for now!

3

And that’s all!
I cross my fingers that this acne will disappear with time but in the meantime I’m trying to keep my face clean and treated and of course – drink tons of water!

Vegan girl in Berlin

Just to be clear: Yes, I know Berlin suppose to be some kind of vegan heaven, but I wouldn’t know because I’ve only been here for a quick weekend (which was very nice and vegan-friendly). But. From my point of view – unlike other vegan destination I’ve been to like Palme de Mallorca or Tel Aviv, the emphasis here is not necessarily on healthy or organic, which is also fine, it’s just different. maybe I’m totally wrong – but that was the vibe I felt…

anyway here are some of the places I visited and like the most…

For your morning/ afternoon coffee: Father Carpenter Coffee Brewers.
this is a charming little cafe in the middle of a GREAT shopping area (so you can have a little rest between swiping your credit card…) It’s in a little yard so you don’t see it from the street, but there is a sign. They have one of the best vegan banana bread I had, plus a freshly squeezed orange juice and a really great coffee too. Address: Münzstraße 21, 10178 Berlin.

vegan banana bread
I know it’s funny that the vegan banana bread is served with butter on the side, but you don’t have to touch it…:)

For the fancy dinner: Kopps.
Kopps is the kind of a restaurant you can go out at night with your friends. It is kind of “fancy” but the atmosphere is relaxed and the food is just great! Ask for a table next to the window. The night we were there it looked like there was only one waiter, so the service was a little bit slow, but I think the food made up for this. The nice thing is that the menu changes constantly, so you probably won’t eat the same dish twice. I had a nice salad for a starter and Pasta for main (But my friends ordered more ‘creative’ dishes). Adress: Linienstraße 94, 10115 Berlin

For the burger on the go: Frittiersalon.20151025_153742
The best places are the one you discover by mistake, right? In this case, my husband and I were looking for a vegan pizza place, but when I entered the place it didn’t really opened my appetite… So, we tried this place right across the street and it was DELICIOUS. What can I say? Vegan Burger + fries + vegan mayo + homemade lemonade= bliss. Adress: Boxhagener Str. 104, 10245 Berlin

20151025_150405

The healthy fast food chain: Dean and David. They have a few branches across the city. this is not an all-vegan place, but they are offering some good options like salad and smoothies and everything is super fresh!

The laid-back: Monsieur Vuong. While you are strolling in Mi20151023_131843tte area and Hackescher market you can stop for lunch at Monsieur Vuong. this is not a vegetarian place, but you can order all the dishes with tofu instead of meat. I ordered the soup which was perfect for a chilly afternoon with a glass of ice tea. Adress: Alte Schönhauser Str. 46, 10119 Berlin, Germany

The saviour: Funk you – Natural Food. This was my personal hero on this trip! It was right next to my hotel, inside a shopping center called “Bikini” (a little strange name for a mall but whatever!). when I was hungry and wanted something right now I went to this place (it is an all-vegetarian place) and ordered the vegan wrap which had a lot of fresh vegetables in it. This place also serves pressed juices and smoothies and the bonus: there is a big window watching the zoo – so you can just eat, look at the monkeys and chillax! Adress: Budapester Str. 42-50, 10245 Berlin, Germany

The best tour you’ll ever take in NYC*

(*if you’re  Kardashian obsessed. And between you and me – who isn’t?)

Once in every time comes a TV show that gives you a sense of something stable in the unstable world. Usually, we’re talking about very long one, with lots of seasons and lots of episodes, that is always there when you turn on the TV, always on reruns, so after the 7,467th time you saw the same episode – it really gives you the feeling of something cozy and familiar. ‘Friends’ is one of those shows: you don’t need to see it in order to recite key dialogs (“we were on a break!”), you already saw it thousands of times, but you won’t mind watching it again. Over the time, you also starting do develop an obsession about the characters’ hair, Clothes, Etc. I bet you have your own “comfort show”. For me, for over a year now that show was ‘Keeping up with the Kardashians’. Yes. I know they are real people, but I like to refer to them as characters in a sitcom. Sue me. When I first moved to London I felt kind of lonely because I didn’t have a job or many friends, but this show was airing every evening and I really found comfort in that and that’s how I really got the know them. Why am I telling you all of that? Just as an introduction to my story about the crazy tour I had in NYC, tracking the Kardashian (and many other celebrities along the way). Hey, I’m not going to deny I love a good gossip story, it was even my job for some time!

So, on my last visit to New York City I wanted to do something different and funny, so I took my dear friend Nim Diamond to the TMZ tour (because there was no chance in hell my husband would have come along…) and what can I tell you? it was AWESOME!
There was nothing cheesy or tacky about it, it was really funny and engaging tour. and OK, I must admit I DID have a drink or two before (I guess on a sunny Saturday afternoon it was inevitable…)  But I promise you will have a good time even if you are not intoxicated:)

20150801_165127
Yep, this is the fancy bus

The tour basically showed us all the celebrities milestones of NYC (at least to the TMZ fans) – like the Standard hotel – where Solange and Jay Z had that fight in the elevator, (B and J are main characters on this tour…), The restaurants on the west village where you can usually spot Rihanna and the club where Drake and Chris Brown had that fight over her, among many other hot spots. (I must say – my friend was even quicker than the guide to spotting all the GIRLS and SATC locations). And of course – no tour is complete without the necessary stop at DASH New York.

20150801_180703

OK, that was embarrassing… Did I look like a pathetic tourist taking pictures inside?( probably yes). Did I still do it while the security guy gave me the pity look (Uhh… yes)? Did I still post it on Facebook (you bet!). But I didn’t buy anything, though, so I saved my dignity! (I hope).

tmz1

The sweet treat: On our break, we got a small red velvet TMZ cupcakes! Oh, and I even won a shirt because we had a quiz and I knew what the letters TMZ stand for –  so do your homework 🙂

20150801_190545

the tour costs 43$ and it’s 2 and half hours long. It’s not for everyone, so if you want to know if this is the right tour for you – ask yourself these 3 questions:
– Do you usually read TMZ with your morning coffee? (don’t lie!)
– Do you know all the Kardashian sisters by name? (don’t lie)
– Are you a person that don’t take oneself too seriously?
If you answered  ‘yes’ to these 3 questions – I think you should definitely go!

Vegan stroll in Brixton Market, south London

Welcome to Brixton. the home of David Bowie used to be a rough neighborhood back in the day, but it’s now it’s one of London’s nicest cheap eats destinations. “Brixton Village” is a covered area at the market with a lot of design stores, some authentic groceries and tons of lovely cafes and cute places to eat or just sit and relax. It’s very colorful and lively space- and it’s all in a Caribbean atmosphere…

20140823_145227  20140823_145304
In order to get there – just hop on the Victoria line and wait until the last stop.

20140823_152025 20140823_150931 20140823_150726 20140823_145536Electric avenue and Electric lane were the first streets in London who had electricity when it was still a rare commodity…

and now for the food…

On my first visit, my  husband and I had a delicious lunch at Senzala – it’s a “Creperie” and cafe, and they have a decent vegan section in their menu. we had 2 savory crepes – one  is “Dujhan” – with garlic mushrooms, caramelized onions, asparagus, sun-dried tomatoes, rocket and spinach drizzled with Maple & Mustard dressing. the second was with a lot of mushrooms and courgettes and was just as good.

Guaraná —that drink that everyone who was in Brazil know…

My second trip to Brixton was with my friend Daria (who is an awesome photographer, that’s why her food pic is much better) and we sat to eat at Mama Lan – a tiny Chinese street food restaurant (literately. tiny. be prepared to stand in line and wait for a table). We has spicy noodle with tofu – heaven.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

And another advice  – bring enough cash with you, because most of the places accept cash only.

Bye for now…
